When the temperature beneath the Earth's surface becomes too great, parts of the mantle melts. This molten mantle is known as magma.
When magma pushes its way onto the Earth's surface through cracks in the Earth's crust, it is known as lava. The outpouring of lava onto the surrounding area is called an eruption.
Over time, many layers of cooled lava result in a volcano.

Question 3(b)
The plates which make up the Earth's curst are always moving. When two plates collide into each other, some layers of rock which make up the crust buckle and form folds.
